You can come to me with ideas fully formed, or you can leave the planning to me. Some people get a shoot to celebrate milestones, others for the growth and healing that it can bring, some for telling their story, and others for no reason at all!
You don't need to have any experience in front of a camera. I love making people feel safe and comfortable. All you have to do is show up and leave the work to me!
The deposit for in-person shoots is $100 and it is non-refundable. This goes toward your full payment, & remaining is due on the day of your photoshoot.
I have a limited number of spots available each month to make sure that I can offer undivided attention and care to each client and create a truly customized experience. This non-refundable deposit helps ensure that there is a mutual commitment between us.
Rescheduling our session with less than 7 days notice is possible with a new deposit. If you are faced with an unexpected circumstance, let's have a chat and find a solution together. If you need to reschedule more than once, a new deposit will need to be paid to reserve your spot.

Studio and space rentals are the responsibility of each client. I can help recommend and find options for our shoot during our consultation. You will be responsible for booking the space.

Every client has different needs & vision for a photo shoot. Some location ideas include your home, a rented studio, a hotel, a friend's home, airbnb, or outdoor public places like parks, the beach, and trails.
You can book with a specific location in mind, or I help in finding the perfect location for your shoot once you book.
I want to know what environment make you feel most at ease. We can create something beautiful anywhere, so the most important thing is choosing a location that represents you and makes you feel free.
I now have my own studio! We can hold your session in my studio for a cheaper rate than other studios, no charge for prep time and take down. Rent my studio for your next shoot:

I also have a list of fantastic studios and indoor spaces around town that I can recommend during our consultation.
Studio and space rentals are the responsibility of the client. I can help recommend and find options for our shoot during our consultation. You will be responsible for booking the space. If you choose to book my studio, the studio fee will be added to your final payment.
It takes 21 days (3 weeks) to get your edited photos after our shooting day. You can also purchase a rush option for $230 and get your photos in 48 hours.
By default, I curate the photos that you will receive. However if you would prefer choosing which photos I edit, you can let me know during our consultation and we can certainly make that happen.
A note on image alterations: I want to showcase the real you. So much healing can come from radical self acceptance of our bodies, and I will be your biggest cheerleader throughout this journey! I do not make any alterations to my subjects' bodies. This being said, if you have a specific request in mind, let's have a conversation about it during the consultation.
During the booking process you can choose to add a friend, lover, family, or even a group of people to your session. Portraits sessions are priced for individuals, and I charge +$50 for each additional person being photographed. Pets are always welcome.
I am located on unceded Lekwungen territory (Victoria BC). I am definitely willing to travel!
- Your package includes shoot location that are between 0 - 10 km from Market Square, Victoria BC.
- You can choose a shoot location that is between 11 - 40 km from Market Square, Victoria BC for a flat travel fee of $85.
- Please get in touch with me for a custom quote for any locations 41+ km from Market Square, Victoria BC.
I go to Vancouver periodically and will wave the travel fee in those instances. Keep an eye on my Instagram stories for announcements about travel dates.
Photography Style
Hazy Daydream
My photography style is ever evolving and can currently be described as hazy daydream. I have moved away from the photography rules that crawl art schools and the internet. I crop and rotate photos in unconventional ways, having a clean focused shot isn't my top priority, and I don't typically bring a shot list with me.
Instead, my goal is to build trust and connection, foster a safe and consent-based experience, make room for play and improvisation, and uncover raw emotions which I bring to surface with each editing decision. When a gallery is delivered to my client, it is loaded with memories of the experience and all the photos become one to tell a story.

About Bertie
Bertie is a non-binary artist and photographer who is currently residing and creating on Lekwungen territory (Victoria, BC). With over 11 years of experience as a photographer, Bertie now specializes in portrait sessions and creating experiences that foster growth, radical self-love and healing.
Bertie believes in a photography approach that is consent-based. There is a high level of vulnerability when being photographed and it is important for a photographer to be conscious of the power dynamics at play. Bertie offers regular check-ins, asks for permission, respects boundaries, and tries to minimize external pressures during a session. They believe that photography preserves emotions, therefore the best photos are the ones where the subject feels comfortable and respected.
